Burning of gases after casting

The GHM foundry in Sommevoire still uses traditional methods for the production of cast iron works of art in limited series. Statues, sculpted firebacks and even stair railings are cast in two-part frames filled with silica sand mixed with resin. The casting of the molten metal into the tightly closed frames requires precise movements. The flaming gases slowly escape as the piece cools, thanks to vents created by the moulder. Soon, these metal sarcophagi will reveal their contents, the result of the know-how of the craftsmen of the Haute-Marne.
