Built in 1909

Near Verzenay, on Mount Rizan, a lighthouse worthy of the Atlantic coast overlooks a sea of vines. This 25-metre high building can be seen from afar. It was built in 1909 by Joseph Goulet, a wine merchant, to promote his champagne brand. In the evening, the lantern was lit and its light could be seen as far away as Reims. At the foot of the lighthouse, a ‘guinguette’, a restaurant and an open-air theatre soon became very successful, but the First World War put an end to the festivities.
