The Verzenay lighthouse is perched on Mount Rizan. Built in 1909 by a champagne merchant, it beams its powerful light onto all the surrounding vineyards. The name of the merchant, Joseph Goulet, was inscribed vertically on all six sides of the building. Until 1914, the ‘dancing’ restaurant installed at the foot of the lighthouse welcomed dozens of curious people every day. Guinguette, restaurant, but also an open-air theatre and a garden with children’s games, the lighthouse was a place of leisure and a meeting place for the entire local population.
