In 1744, Charles-Jean-Baptiste du Tillet, ‘maître des requêtes’, inherited the Domaine de Villarceaux and settled with his family in the Renaissance manor. After a few years, the Marquis of Villarceaux had three wings of the manor dismantled in order to recover the stones. They were used to build the new castle, located on a plateau above the valley, known as “du Haut” (Upper). From 1755 to 1759, a two-storey Louis XV style pleasure house was built, austere on the outside and decorated in the Rocaille style on the inside. Around the Château du Haut (Upper Castle), a French park was laid out with a vertugadin decorated with antique statues.
