The church of the Exaltation-de-la-Sainte-Croix dominates the village of Bailly in Aube. It is part of a group of half-timbered churches. It is a 16th century church. Stone being scarce in the Aube, men built churches as their houses, out of mud, earth and of course wood. Cut wooden tiles cover the walls of the main entrance. There are a variety of roofing materials: the slate bell tower, the flat tile on the nave, the coating of chestnut and batten essences.
