Most of the time, buffalos mate and calve during the rainy season. At this time of the year, the grass is rich and abundant enough to ensure the cows a good lactation. The calf is able to stand about ten minutes after its birth, but it will only be able to run after a few weeks. The young buffalos often have a brighter coat than adults, and are almost entirely brown.
