Sheep farming in salted meadows is a traditional activity on the bay of Mont Saint-Michel. In the 11th century, the monks of the abbey had a right of sheep breeding which allowed them to choose the best sheep from each farm. The traditional image of Mont Saint-Michel and its bay is today inseparable from the herds of sheep grazing on the grasses. The salted meadows lamb (also called the grévin) is rustic and characterized by its small size and resistance to severe marine environment conditions: pitch, salt, wind and rain. He travels 5 to 10 km per day.
