Driving the English out of France

Bertrand du Guesclin made himself known in 1357. After several feats of arms, he was made constable by King Charles V of France in 1370 with the objective of expelling the English troops from the country. Contrary to the habits of the French chivalry, Bertrand du Guesclin did not proceed through large campaigns led by the entire army. He favored the methodical recapture of provinces one at a time. Besieging one castle after another, he drove the English out of Normandy. Bertrand du Guesclin died of drinking too much ice water after having fought in full sun on July 13, 1380.
