The greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) is a large and generally migratory wading bird that follows the rainy episodes to take advantage of the filling of its feeding and breeding areas. It thus travels around the Mediterranean, to Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. It can also stay all year round in the same place if the conditions are favorable, like in the Camargue colonies. Small groups of flamingos then fly locally from pond to pond.
