After having emerged 3 million years ago, Bora Bora is the most ancient of Society Islands. Its true name, Pora Pora means first year in Tahitian. Its geological features are particular: half atoll, half high island. The heights of Mount Otemanu, Pahia and Hue overhang the lagoon which is surrounded by limestone reefs and numerous motus. Such beauty justifies the island's nicknames, the pearl of the Pacific or Mai te pora (created by the gods).
