Le bourdon terrestre est un hyménoptère, bon pollinisateur, très commun en Europe. Il est essentiel dans les régions tempérées, et plus efficace que les abeilles car il pollinise dès l’aube, au printemps par temps couvert, pluvieux ou venteux. Il est notamment utilisé en culture sous serre car son comportement est très peu agressif. Il se nourrit du nectar qu’il trouve en butinant les fleurs qu’il pollinise.
