Adopted by water sports enthusiasts around the world, both canoeing and kayaking originated in North America, among Native Americans for canoeing and Inuits for kayaking. These two light boats are propelled by paddles. They are used for boating and fishing at sea as well as on lakes and rivers like here on the Orne in Normandy. They also feature in paddle sports competitions.
