Biot, from pottery to art glassmaking
2
0
A medieval jewel ideally located between Nice and Cannes, Biot has been renowned for its artisanal bubbled glassware since 1956 after having been, from the 16th century, the most important center of production of oil jars in the Mediterranean thanks to its deposits of clay, sand, manganese and cinerite (kiln stone). Today, the glassmakers (photo) still rub shoulders with potters and ceramists, but also painters settled in the village in the wake of Fernand Léger to whom a national museum is dedicated.
