The Abbey of Cluny in the Saône-et-Loire department houses an 18th-century sundial visible in the cloister. This declining afternoon dial is painted with a decoration that may resemble shells. Its hour lines, whose jambs end in arrows, are numbered with Roman numerals. The sundial of Cluny bears the Latin inscription Ex iis una caue which means beware of one of them.
