History rubs shoulders with wild areas in the Risle valley in the Eure department. On foot or by bike, more than 236 miles (380 km) of paths crisscross the surroundings of Pont-Audemer, whose canals can be explored by kayak. In the historic center, some fifteen flowery panels provide information on the history of the town. Lined with half-timbered houses from the 15th and 16th centuries, the canals of Pont-Audemer have earned it the nickname Norman's Little Venice.
