The commune of Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise covers 28 sq. miles (7,238 hectares), at an altitude varying between 2,985 and 5,708 feet (910-1,740 metres), in the Southwest of the department of Puy-de-Dôme, 31 miles (50 km) Southwest of Clermont-Ferrand and 21.7 miles (35 km) of Issoire. It is located in the heart of the Monts Dore and belongs to the community of communes of the Sancy massif. Mainly rural and with an economy dominated by agriculture and tourism, Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise has around fifty farms focused on dairy cattle breeding.
