Home to twenty species of cicadas

France is home to around twenty species of cicadas, three of which are endemic to Corsica (Cicadetta fangoana - the Fango Cicada, Tibicina corsica subsp. Corsica - the Corsican Cicada and Tibicina nigronervosa - the Black-veined Cicada). The others mainly prosper in the plains of southern France, in the Mediterranean area and its hinterland. However, certain species are scattered throughout the territory, such as the Hill Cicada (Cicadetta brevipennis) or the Red Cicada (Tibicina haematodes), or more particularly occupy mountainous regions such as the Mountain Cicada (Cicadetta montana).
