Upi Bay is 2,5 miles (4 km) long and 1,25 mile (2 km) wide. It is formed by indented coral reefs including that of Nongan, south-east of Isle of Pines. It can be visited in a traditional Kanak canoe from the bay of St Joseph. Here and there, between the islets, rocks emerge and seem to float on the transparent water. They are considered sacred by the Kanaks. Upi Bay is very rich in coral formations and teems with fish.
