Living in open spaces and wilderness, zebras do not support captivity, the choice of their partners and the relations with their young being essential for the survival of the species. Some species, which compete because they occupy similar biotopes in the wild, must protect themselves from each other, such as semi-aquatic antelopes which hide their babies in the reeds, while others benefit from this cohabitation, such as wildebeests which rely on zebra vigilance against predators.
