Bell decoration

There are several steps to the making of a bell: the core, the fake bell, the cope, the unmoulding, and the casting. Decorations are applied on the fake bell using the ‘lost wax’ technique. Letters are handmade out of wax (photo) in moulds made of boxwood, plaster, or elastomer. The initials and decorations are then glued to the fake bell. There are no rules when it comes to bell inscriptions and they can represent patron saints, foliage, coats of arms. The name of the bell can be added, as well as the name of the donor, the pope, or the bishop.
