Pouring spout of a casting ladle

A metallurgical ladle is a metal container lined with refractory materials. It is used to transport molten metal between the furnace and the moulds. In art foundries, the capacity of a ladle varies from a few hundred pounds to several tons of liquid cast iron at 2,552°F (1,400°C). The ladle is equipped with a pouring spout and a handwheel that allows the worker to pour the glowing mixture into the moulds. Every last drop is poured into the moulds, which are placed next to each other on the casting site. The GHM foundry in Sommevoire (Haute-Marne) has a reputation for producing a very fluid cast iron.
