It is located in a Portuguese village, Batalha, in the District of Leiria. The beginning of the construction of this monastery was the result of a promise, made by King D. João I, in gratitude for the victory in Aljubarrota, a battle fought on August 14, 1385, which secured him the throne and guaranteed Portugal's independence. Portuguese late Gothic architecture, or Manueline style. Monument considered world heritage by UNESCO and classified as a National Monument.
