Robert Marichy, a turner for over sixty years, has long mastered all the rules of woodturning. The first is that the bevel of any tool - except scraping tools - must properly rub against the wood while cutting ; the depth of cut or the thickness of the chip being regulated by changing the angle of attack of its cutting edge. The second is that for all tools including scraping tools, only the part of the cutting edge directly supported by the tool holder can be used safely.
