The formation of sandy bars at the mouths of rivers, like here that of Ouaïème on the east coast of Grande Terre is characteristic of the rivers which flow slowly throughout their basin or those, more impetuous, which lose their momentum in a widenend delta at their mouth. This is the case of the Ouaïème river which drains part of the Panié massif before crossing the Paana and Pagu tribes.
