The vernacular name 'snapper' refers to several species of the Lutjanidae family. These are demersal fish from the tropical and subtropical areas. Teleosts, they capture their preys (crustaceans, small fish) by aspiring them thanks to a depression which attracts the preys into their mouths. Their maxillary but also premaxillary bones are mobile.
