It was Claude Monet himself who chose the pink color for the facade of his Giverny house and that of the shutters. At the time, the custom was to paint the frames gray. However, the painter cared little for conventions and decided to have them painted green. In order to make the house blend into his garden, Monet set up a gallery in front of it, a pergola covered with climbing roses, and grew a Virginia creeper on the facade.
