Baby beluga whale with its mother
4
0
Female beluga whales become sexually mature at around five years of age. They give birth to a single calf after a gestation period that lasts just over a year. Mother and calf have an extremely strong bond, swimming very closely together. The calf continues to feed on its mother’s milk until its second year. It develops its striking white coloring when becoming sexually mature. These whales are thought to live for up to 50 years.
