The Chacma baboon spends most of its time on the ground looking for food and grooming but sleeps in trees or on steep cliff faces and shelters from predators there. When the group is on the ground, feeding or grooming for instance, some baboons go on elevated points, on rocks or in trees, as sentinels. If one of them sees a predator, it gives the alert.
