At La Grange de la Haute Vallée, in the Cantal, Alain André takes care of the feed for his Montbeliarde cows. In the summer, the herd grazes on the fatty grass of his meadows, in the winter it consumes the hay mown on the spot. The farmer transforms 90% of the raw milk produced on the farm into Auvergne PDO cheeses: Cantal – several gold and silver medals at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris since 2009 –, Bleu d’Auvergne and Salers – silver medal in 2015, 2016 and 2018 at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris. Alain André is also interested in genetics and tries to improve the qualities of his heifers, all born on the farm.
