After the last tourists have left the rock, and the last walks on the shore are over, the night envelops the Mont in all its mystery. Do the ramparts echo with the fury of battles? Is the abbey shrouded in the past fervour of pilgrims? The muffled cry of the prisoners? So many historical events have come to rest on this rock of barely 4 km2.
