Around the pig

Beyond its nutritional value, the pig has a central ritual, offering, and exchange value for the Dani tribes. All the major calendar events - the first rains, the sweet potato harvests... - include a pork feast. Brought up by the women who keep them in their houses or place them in pens so as not to lose them or have them stolen by neighboring tribes, they are slaughtered and cut up by the men.
