The breeding of the forty Montbéliardes cows of La Grange de la Haute Vallée is closely linked to the territory of the farm. Its 123.5 acres (50 ha) of meadows produce most of their food while being maintained and enhanced by the cattle. 2.5 acres (1 ha) of land indeed provide food for one cow while recycling its excreta, which enriches the soil with natural organic matter. Such autonomy also maintains agricultural biodiversity and crop rotation.
