Mont-Dore is not just a mountain and winter sports resort. It is also a spa resort renowned for the purity of its air and the quality of its waters. Its thermal baths were built between 1817 and 1823 on the site of the former Roman baths at an altitude of 3,444 ft (1,050 m). They extend over thermal springs that emerge between 89.6 and 111.2°F (32 and 44°C) from a vein of volcanic lava. Their bicarbonate, sodium, and silica-rich waters are recommended in the treatment of rheumatic and respiratory ailments.
