At the pace of the tides

The town and port of Trouville-sur-Mer live to the rhythm of the tides, which renew the landscapes, and the movement of the fishing boats with each ebb and flow of the waters. In Normandy, the tide is a daily phenomenon that sees the sea rise and fall twice a day with a daily shift of fifty minutes. At low tide, an infinite space stretches out in front of the city and the boats run aground, while at high tide the waters rise to the edge of the quay and of the Fish Market (photo). The amplitude of the tides can reach 32.8 ft (10 m) during the spring and autumn equinoxes.
