Camp amid the Arctic sea ice, Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Sea ice is a thin sheet of frozen seawater covering the ocean at high latitudes, with an average thickness of about 6 feet (2 meters) and a maximum thickness of about 30 feet (10 meters). It forms when the air temperature drops below the freezing point of seawater which is about 28 °F (-2 °C).
