Located in the heart of the Val d'Argent, a former major mining site, the Tellure park in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines recounts the life of 16th-century miners. After a first wave of silver digging in the Altenberg mountain, they started exploiting the Neuenberg massif in 1549 after the discovery of the Saint-Jean vein. It contained silver-lead from which miners previously did not know how to extract silver. The via ferrata created in 2009 allows exploring the mine and getting closer to the silver veins emerging from the gneiss hard rocks.
