Located at an altitude of more than 2,296 feet (700 m) between the mountains and the Mediterranean coast, Sainte-Agnès, the highest coastal village in Europe, well symbolizes the villages of the 'Mediterranean Alps'. This cross-border sector which brings together more than 80 municipalities spread over more than 200,000 hectares between the Mercantour National Park, the Italian Alpi Marittime park and the marine domain of the Principality of Monaco is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage listing for the exceptional character of its geology.
