The Natura 2000 site known as Vallée de l'Orne et ses affluents (Orne valley and its tributaries) extends over 5,226 acres (2,215 ha) between the Calvados and Orne departments. It includes the Orne, Noireau, and Rouvre valleys, as well as the Gouttes tunnel and part of the Laize valley. Its role is to safeguard the biotopes of its various rivers as well as those of the slopes and gorges that border them.
