The ‘Petite Montagne’ of Jura is a natural region in the southwest of the Jura massif located in the cantons of Arinthod, Orgelet and Saint-Julien-sur-Suran. It covers an area of 237 square miles (382.93 km2) from 1,321 to 2,758 feet (400 to 841 meters) above sea level between Revermont to the west, the department of Ain to the south and Haut-Jura, from which it is separated by the 'Gorges de l 'Ain', to the east. Its relief is quite rugged with plateaus with limestone cliffs deeply notched by different tributaries of the Ain.
