The town of Courseulles-Sur-Mer in the Calvados department has an ancient origin dating back to the 12th century. Its name has evolved over the centuries, from Cursella to Courseulla and eventually Courseulles. The city is now a small regional town of 4,200 inhabitants that quintuples its attendance in summer. Courseulles-Sur-Mer has a maritime vocation due to its location at the mouth of the Seulles river. Shipbuilding and oyster farming are two of the economic hubs of this window to the sea.
