At the crossroads of various paths

The village of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt extends at the crossroads of the traditional paths of the Pays d'Apt and the Via Domitia. The Chemin de Gordes, abandoned in 1868 during the construction of the current road, started from Rustrel and passed to the south of the village. The Chemin de Sault started west of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt and joined Saint-Christol by crossing the Route du Dauphiné. It replaced the Chemin d’Apt au Dauphiné, which was less well laid out and less practicable and formed a long straight line across the plain. As for the Via Domitia, it linked Italy to Spain covering 484 mi (780 km).
