Sainte-Croix Lake, with its turquoise waters, is an artificial reservoir definitively put in water by Electricité de France in August 1973 following the construction of the Sainte-Croix dam on the course of the Verdon downstream of the famous gorges. It is located at the crossroads of the Alps, Côte d'Azur and Provence at an altitude of 1,565 feet (477 meters), at the foot of Plan de Canjuers and Valensole Plateau and straddling the departments of Var and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence which it separates.
