The Grande Salle Pierre Boulez occupies five levels of the Philharmonie de Paris. It is accessed via the third level, which offers an impressive view of the stage and the asymmetrical tiers arranged around the hall. A balcony in the shape of a rounded bird’s nest gives the impression of floating above the floor. A large, height-adjustable cloud on the ceiling allows the acoustics to be adjusted. It is placed in a high position for a symphony orchestra and in a low position for small ensembles or soloists, which makes the acoustics more intimate.
