Unlike most carnivores which can chew their preys and hold them while they eat them, snakes - such as this Black Mamba - have no limbs and must therefore entirely swallow their food. To allow them to widely open their jaws to ingest large preys, their skull is articulated flexibly with small bones able to deviate from each other.
