The fire lit by the hunters in Vaituha Bay after their hunting day on the central plateau of Eiao island in the Marquesas archipelago marks the end of the day. It is used to grill the meat chosen for the hunters' meal but also to burn the hair of the slaughtered wild pigs so as to scrape and clean their skin with brushes, sticks and knives.
