A simplicity that inspires serenity and silence reigns around the cloister of the Abbey of Fontfroide. In the Middle Ages, monks spent time there reading and meditating in silence. In the shelter of the arcades and marble columns, peace settles under the stone vault. It was installed by the Cistercian monks following the attachment of the abbey to the Order of Cîteaux in 1145.
