Red lateritic clays
The island of Eiao in the Marquesas archipelago is 8 miles (13km) long and 4.3 miles (7km) wide for a 32 sqmi (52km2) surface that these hunters surveyed in search of wild sheep and pigs. The gently sloping side of the interior is mainly composed of red but also grey, yellow or blue laterite clays.
