Architecture of Saint-André church

0
Located in the centre of Besse en Chandesse, Saint-André Roman church is made of volcanic stone. The Western gable (on the left in the photo) is flanked by four buttresses. One can see a first level with a portal surmounted by a semi-circular stringcourse and above it, a second level with an arched bay. Facing the first bay of the nave, the portal on the South facade is preceded by a prominent porch, which is accessed by a wide staircase, here covered in snow. To the right of the porch are four chapels with pointed arches.
