Renaissance architecture in the Clos de Vougeot
1
0
The castle of Clos de Vougeot is located in the heart of the Burgundy vineyards in a domain of 50 hectares. It is named after the river La Vouge. The castle was built by the Cistercian monks of the Abbey of Cîteaux. They cultivated a grape variety of Pinot Noir in the vines. In the Renaissance, in 1551, the 48th Abbot of Cîteaux decided to enrich the architecture of the castle. Two buildings with their Renaissance moldings and mullioned windows completed the structure.
