The Araucaria of New Caledonia are especially dominant on the most stony terrains of the Loyalty Islands. The grouping which occupies the raised coral terraces of Lifou or the Isle of Pines is almost monospecific, with the exception of some Pandanus in the undergrowth while that mixed on limestone behind includes a stratum of Angiosperms with a floristic composition close to that of the limestone forests.
